World of Warcraft Mage
Guide
The mage is the magic
class in the game it is much like the priest in that you
wear cloth armor and do all magic spells. This is not a
melee class. Mages are different from priests in that they
are purely a dps class. Where as a priest can be a healer
or dps. So if you like to deal out damage and are not into
the melee style, this is the class for you.
After you’ve picked the race and faction for your character
and select your mage class there are a few things you’ll need
to know before you get going.

Getting Started in the Mage Class
Remember, the mage class has only cloth armor. This is a
distinct disadvantage when it comes to close combat. You will
need to rely on your dps and fast. It’s important to remember
this when you first start playing so you don’t have to start
over. The mage’s strengths are in distance fighting.
Once you get to this point, it will be time to pick your
profession. You want to pick professions that will compliment
your class. Alchemy and Herbalism are a couple. As well as
Tailoring and Enchanting. You can either make your own potions
or make your own armor.
Blacksmithing, leatherworking and mining are really not well
suited for mages.
Skills of the Mage
Since this is a class of magic, you're going to be relying
on spells for the mage. Your spells are what will defend you as
well as put out dps. You will have a wand and staff as well but
these will not do much for you. The wand may come in handy
early on, but you will mostly be relying on your spells.
There are three main types of spells that a mage can use:
Arcane, Fire or Frost. When used properly, these are incredibly
effective at stopping an enemy. However, it is important to be
as far away from the action as you can. Keep an eye on your
mana, your spells with use this and if you run out you cannot
cast anymore spells.
